In November 2018 Tesco announced a long-term partnership with WWF. With food production at the centre of many environmental issues, we came together with a shared ambition: to make it easier for customers to access an affordable, healthy, and sustainable diet.
Through the partnership we aim to halve the environmental impact of the average UK shopping basket. To deliver this, we are focusing on three key areas: helping customers to eat more sustainably, restoring nature in food production, and eliminating waste.

For over 60 years, WWF has worked to help people and nature thrive. As the world’s leading conservation organization, WWF works in nearly 100 countries. At every level, we collaborate with people around the world to develop and deliver innovative solutions that protect communities, wildlife, and the places in which they live.
WWF have set out an approach to identify the most pressing issues in the food system and what needs to be done to address them. The WWF Basket can help food companies have a responsibility to help fix the food system. Change needs to happen across the food production chain, from field to plate.
Initially developed with our partner Tesco, WWF is now working together with UK retailers who share WWF’s vision and achieve our ambitious aim to halve the environmental impact of UK baskets by 2030.
